The
second-tallest mountain on Langkawi – Gunung Mat Cincang – rises about
2,300 feet above the island, and its peak commands magnificent views of
the island as well as Kedah and nearby Thailand. Visitors don’t need any
mountain climbing experience to see the view for themselves; they can
simply ride one of the cable car gondolas that ascend to the peak from
the Oriental Village at the mountain’s base.
The
cable’s 35 gondolas glide along a 6,500-foot-long cable punctuated by
three stops: stations at each end of the line, and one Middle Station
located 2,100 feet above sea level. Each gondola can accommodate up to
six people.
At the Top Station, visitors can ascend to one of two
viewing platforms at the very peak of Gunung Mat Cincang and overlook
the island’s western coast and the mountain’s interesting geology. The
curved SkyBridge offers another thrilling vantage point: this unique
pedestrian suspension bridge hangs at 2,300ft above sea level from a
single pylon, offering guests a dizzying perspective over the forested
mountainside.
